Summer FUN in Concord, CA!

School is out and summer is officially underway. Who says you have to go far to enjoy your summer vacation. Simply Superior Auto Body has compiled a list of family favorites right here in our own backyard.

Contra Costa Canal Trail
One of the most popular trails in the Park District system, the Contra Costa Canal Trail is a paved pathway suitable for bikers, runners, equestrians and even those in need of wheelchair access. This trail provides a safe off-road corridor connecting Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, and Concord.

Meandering along the Contra Costa Canal, following a horseshoe-shaped path through central Contra Costa County, the trail intercepts a number of local parks in Pleasant Hill (Las Juntas Park), Walnut Creek (Larkey Park, Heather Farm Park), and Concord (Lime Ridge). It makes for a great family outing if you like hiking or enjoying nature on a leisurely stroll.

Concord Pavilion
Concord Pavilion (formerly known as Sleep Train Pavilion and Chronicle Pavilion) is an amphitheatre located in Concord, California. It is owned by the City of Concord and operated by Live Nation.[2] The Pavilion has a capacity of 12,500 people and is home to many concerts and local community events (including an annual jazz festival). So if music and live entertainment are on your bucket list this summer, we recommend checking out this season’s schedule.

Waterworld California
If things feel like they are heating up during your vacation this summer, take a meander over to Waterworld California. Pools, slides and are just some of the great amenities this waterpark in Concord offers. Waterworld California even offers Season Passes for those who will be attending often this summer

Indoor Miniature Golf
Grab your family and head to a totally cool and unique miniature golf adventure. Ghost Golf is an indoor, fully-themed miniature golf course set in a creepy old haunted graveyard.  We are the only course that uses mini golf to lure you through a Haunted Attraction. You are basically playing mini golf in a haunted house! It is scary fun for your entire family and friends.

These are just a few options in the Concord area. We have a ton to offer from the youngest of your clan to the most mature.

Summer Safety and Travel Tips for All!

School is out and vacation season is now officially underway! What can you do to ensure you and your family are safe on the road this travel season? Prevention and planning may take a little effort on your part up front, but can spare you from dealing with the consequences of a breakdown – or worse yet, a highway crash – later.

Simply Superior Auto Body has compiled our favorite summer driving tips into three main categories; before you hit the road, safety is key and where the rubber meets the road.

Before You Hit the Road
Regular maintenance is key to the longevity of any vehicle, however, if you are planning a road trip you, may want to get your car serviced prior to leaving. Preventative maintenance will reduce your risk of an unwanted breakdown during your travels.

Pack an Emergency Roadside Kit with cell phone, cell phone car charger and first aid supplies in case of an emergency while you are on the road. Other recommended items include; flashlight, any necessary medications, flares, jumper cables, tire pressure gauge, jack, maps, blankets and nonperishable food and drinking water.

Safety Is Key
Buckle up everyone who is traveling in the vehicle should be buckled up! If your little ones are still utilizing child safety seats, be sure they are properly secured. Adults, too, need to be securely fastened to set an example and stay safe, as well.

While children can be a joy to have on a family vacation, you need to keep in mind that all children 13 and under should ride in the back seat. You should also remember to lock your vehicle when exiting so that children do not play and get trapped inside your car. Also, never leave your children unattended in or around your vehicle as elevated temperatures can harm your children if they are left inside a vehicle alone, even for a short period of time

Where the Rubber Meets the Road
Stay alert while driving by getting plenty of rest the night before. If you start to feel drowsy, consider staying overnight in a hotel or resort. Keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and concentrate on the task of driving without the distraction of your cell phone. Distracted driving includes driving while using your cell phone, texting, drinking, eating or any other activity that takes your attention away from the task at hand. Please refrain from distracted driving to ensure your family’s safety, as well as your own and others on the road.

Speeding is not only a bad idea, but it is also dangerous and can be costly if you are caught. Obey all speed limits and adjust your speed if you encounter bad weather or other traffic conditions that require you to slow down.

Tea For A Cause

Typical English Afternoon Tea.

On any given day in the United States, the Tea Association of the U.S.A reports more than 158 million Americans are drinking tea. The beverage takes a back seat only to H20, according to the organization.

Break that down and you’re looking at roughly four out of five consumers who are consuming tea. Many of us are enjoying the beverage in its iced form instead of soda.

You can drink tea this month and help out a great cause – The Concord Historical Society. It’s time for the organization’s Spring Tea at the Galindo Home. The event will be held May 6th-8th at 1721 Amador Ave., Concord.

The beautiful historic home was one of the first Victorian ranch houses in the country when it was built in 1856 for Don Francisco Galindo and his wife, Maria Dolores Manuela (Pacheco) Galindo, Don Salvio’s second daughter. Learn more about the home’s history, its role as the Concord Historical Society museum and tours before you participate in this popular fundraiser featuring teas and delectable treats in the home.

You can choose from two sittings each day – 11:30am or 2 pm. – for just $30 per person. All proceeds benefit the Concord Historical Society. Get your tickets by calling Jill at 925.229.0529.

Ladies And Gentlemen… Start Your Engines

NASCAR 2016 is now under way. As our favorite drivers line up at the start line, let’s prepare for the Sprint Cup to kick into high gear.

Now, some of you may already be big NASCAR fans, but for those of you still getting your hands greasy, here are a few things you should know going into the 2016 season.

Bring your earplugs this season because it’s going to get loud. Cars, drivers and enthusiasts alike all begin lining up for the first race of a three-part showdown at Daytona International Speedway.

Will Kyle Busch be able to defend his throne? Busch, who had a tragic start in the 2015 season opener, was able to make an amazing comeback in his first-ever Sprint Cup Series title. But Busch needs to keep his eyes peeled to the road because three-time Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart will no doubt be on his bumper trying to make his final season one to remember.

Drivers will be more determined than ever to grab every point they can to secure their slot this season as they fight the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Who will come out on top? Some of the younger drivers are still eager to earn their seat in the arena. After a surprisingly sorry sophomore season, Kyle Larson aims to stake his claim and turn his mediocre start into a meteoric rise.

Fast cars, high stakes and more left turns than you can crank a wrench at.

While we’d like to give you our predictions, we’ve have learned one thing over the years…NASCAR is pretty unpredictable. It’s just one of the things that will keep you on the edge of your seat. We know we will be.

How to Survive the Emotional Turmoil After an Auto Accident

No one wants to be in an automobile accident, however on national average all drivers will encounter nearly 3 or 4 accidents in their lifetime.

There’s nothing like an accident to ruin what was once going to be just another average day. There’s a feeling of responsibility for the physical hurt that may occur, the property that has been damaged, and whether or not your car is totaled, you’re going to need collision repairs, and the loss of your car even for a short time is a tough one to bear.

Okay, so you’ve been in a collision. It happens to the best of us. First and foremost, Simply Superior Auto Body is concerned for your safety. Ensure that no one is hurt or needs medical attention. Then you have permission to have a full blown emotional meltdown of sorts. Endorphins are high and that shaky, panicky feeling that often accompanies an accident is truly hard to avoid. However, the physical effects will not last long, while your emotions may linger.

Those emotions you feel aren’t productive if you dwell on them.

Simply Superior Auto Body would like to provide a few tips to help you move on after your auto collision.

  • Drive and Drive Now. An extremely common reaction is to vow never to drive again. But can you really commit to that? Doubtful. Driving is more than just transportation. Don’t wait to get behind the wheel again or you could develop an unrealistic fear of driving.
  • Take care of YOU. Your car is out of commission while it’s being repaired, right? Get a courtesy car or rent one for yourself while your automobile is being repaired. It’s all too common to punish yourself by not driving. You need wheels to get to work and back home, don’t you? Not too mention that amazing social life you have. Just buck up and get a courtesy car. Pay for the upgrade to a better class and enjoy driving again right away. It was an accident and accidents happen.
  • Discuss Your Experience. Whether you were in a minor fender bender or the auto collision of all collisions, talk the accident through with someone. You could go for coffee with a friend and talk about your experience. Sometimes it just helps to get any emotionally feelings out to get you back on track.

You didn’t purposefully get into an automobile collision; so don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ll soon realize that others have forgotten the incident long before you have. You healthy, your vehicle can be repaired or replaced, worse things can happen.

Since 1983 people have been bringing their damaged vehicles to Simply Superior Auto Body for the highest quality collision repair in Concord and the surrounding area. Stop by or give us a call today to see how we can serve you!

Concord, CA Giving Thanks at Thanksgiving Dinner

Often people find themselves alone for the holidays with nowhere to turn for a home cooked meal or traditional holiday festivities. Simply Superior is proud to be part of Concord, CA, a thriving, generous community who gives back throughout the year and especially during the holiday season when times can be a bit tougher for those in need.

For nearly a decade, Lynnette Campbell and volunteers from various churches throughout the area, prepare days in advance for a Thanksgiving dinner tradition serving anyone who would like to join.

Needs may range from financial to emotional, but it makes no difference to those that support the cause. Volunteers will be in the Concord, CA area, once again, to provide, not only a hot meal, but a safe family rich environment and friendly smiles for all who choose to be a part of the Thanksgiving Day Feast held at First Lutheran Church.

Invitations are not only meant for the homeless and the destitute, but people who just want to enjoy a hot meal cooked with love on Thanksgiving Day.

Donations from several local churches and individuals have allowed the Concord, CA community to continue the tradition that provides enough turkey and mashed potatoes “with all the fixins'” to feed about 200 people.

A home-style meal, where people actually sit down and not go through a line to get their food helps set a festive ambiance with lively conversation in the hopes of lifting holiday spirits. Everything from fresh salad, to warm, juicy turkey, to desert and coffee is lovingly prepared and served by volunteers at no cost or obligation to anyone wanting a hot meal and friendly smile.

The event has always drawn many volunteers, often times out numbering those who attend for a festive, holiday meal. Those who will be spending the holidays alone, elderly, homeless, financially in need, you name it are all encouraged to attend.

Volunteers will be able to provide transportation for residents who live locally.

Other ways people can help include donating new socks of all sizes, and new or gently used blankets/sleeping bags, coats and gloves for distribution after the meal.

Monetary donations to offset the cost of the food may be made out to First Lutheran Church and brought or mailed to 4000 Concord Blvd., Concord, CA 94519.

Please bring your donations to:

School Safety Tips for All

School is nearly back in session. Thousands of children will soon be travelling back and forth to school on a daily basis. Keeping them safe on the roads is something we can all help to better by practicing safe driving, especially in school areas.  Here at Simply Superior Auto Body, we hope to make school campuses a little safer for Concord this year.

By adhering to a few simple guidelines we can all do our part!

Obey all street and traffic laws closely:

  • School zones are marked around all schools with reduced speed limits to keep everyone as safe as possible.
  • Speed reduction around school areas is enforced with little discretion. It’s also within a driver’s best interest to slow down as well. A ticket in a school zone will cost a minimum of $100 and quickly increase based on speed of infraction.
  • For drivers, knowing you’re in a school zone is imperative. If you’re unsure if you are entering a school zone there are a few quick checks you can make.
  • First, if you can see a school it is likely that you are within the school zone.
  • School zones are marked as being anywhere within 500 feet of a school.
  • Most often, signs are posted when approaching a school, many accompanied by flashing street lights during high traffic times, including before and after school hours.
  • Be careful to protect all pedestrians as well as yourself by being aware of these zones.

Keep a look out for crosswalks:

  • Crossing guards and adult assistance is often available to children, but caution should be shown by drivers, especially when adult supervision is not available.
  • Children lack some ability in detecting the rate at which a car may reach their crosswalk. It may also be difficult to see – for both the driver and the child, if the street view is blocked by parked cars.
  • Make sure to approach all crosses carefully especially during peak traffic and school hours.
  • Offering persistent reminders to our children to be mindful in these areas is a monumental help in their safety.
  • Mapping out a route home, teaching only to cross at crosswalks, and to always walk on sidewalks are only a few ways to help children make him home safely.
  • Most importantly, remind your children often to continue their understanding of safety near roadways. Consistent reminders allow children to more readily remember important information when it is needed most.

The Concord Public Schools begin September 1st this year.

With these tips for drivers, parents, and kids we hope each and every person has a wonderful back to school experience this year. With everyone’s cooperation we can have the safest school year yet!
